Julie Oxenberg, Ph.D.
Julie Oxenberg, Ph.D. is a clinical psychologist and the co-founder
of Spiritual Psychology Associates, a holistic healing network. Dr.
Oxenberg completed her clinical training at the Beth Israel Hospital of
Harvard Medical School and post-doctoral training at the University
Health Service of Harvard University. Subsequently, she served as an
instructor in the Department of Psychiatry of the Harvard Medical
School.
After finishing her doctorate, Dr. Oxenberg pursued specialized
training in Spiritual Psychology at the Concord Institute in Concord,
MA. She now serves on the Spirituality and Mental Health task force at
the Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology which offers
training opportunities in spirituality and mental health for clinicians
throughout New England.
Dr. Oxenberg also holds a Masters degree in International Diplomacy
from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy where she concentrated
her studies in intercultural conflict resolution. From 1997-2001 she
served as co-director of the Boston International Center, an
organization that provides a range of clinical, cultural, and
supportive services to the international community in Boston.
Dr. Oxenberg has been involved in the Tikkun Community since its
founding conference in early 2002 and serves on the steering committee
of its Boston chapter. After the attacks of 9/11 she felt inspired to
apply her psychological and spiritual training toward political
engagement aimed at deepening understanding and empathy between peoples
on the collective level. Among her publications are several articles
that apply a psychological analysis to world affairs including: "Never
again! The meaning of mourning the Holocaust to Middle East peace,"
"Mourning, meaning and not repeating; Themes of dialogue between
descendants of Holocaust survivors and descendants of Nazis," and
"Psychological perspectives on Palestinian-Israeli peace -- Is the
world ready to take yes for an answer?"
